Nervousness is a common hurdle in the path of our success. It is the result of lack of self-confidence. Being in the spotlight whenever we express our views or present ourselves in front of unknown people, nervousness comes and tries to haunt us. It creates a shield between the speaker and audience. Its symptoms are pounding of the heart, sweating, fumbling and many more.
Reasons for this can be lack of knowledge, incomplete homework about the subject, short vocabulary, lack of practice, lack of concentration, lots of distractions last but not the least language barriers. It’s okay if we get nervous sometimes because it’s the first stepping stone to identify our problems, weaknesses and unconfident zones. We should always try to break our comfort zone. Nervousness is not actually unbeatable; we can beat it by boosting our self-confidence.
To boost self-confidence, we should keep practising in front of our friends, family members or unknown people too if possible. We should complete homework about the subject effectively and try to make our presentation more logical and informative. Sometimes interaction sequences also work to get together with the audience. Still if we lack concentration in the middle of the conversation we can try to talk about our personal opinions and experiences about that particular subject, also we can try to add humour in a positive expression.
We should not think about the competitors, judges or audience reactions before the presentation. We should just focus on our script and body language. We can always do some on the spot additions in our presentation so that it turns out in an interaction. While going into the spotlight we should appreciate ourselves that no matter if we face failure, it’s important that we have participated and taken initiative voluntarily. Hence, we can assume this hurdle as a little stepping stone towards our first milestone.
