Oh, my stationery needs space to fit in. I have so many pens, pencils, colours, etc but when I need them urgently all I do is run here and there…where is my pen? I guess same might have happened with you also.
We (project makers) got a craft project: to make a paper pen stand but not a simple one. Student wanted a paper pen stand which is made by using specific paper folding skills.
Now how to make a handmade paper pen stand. Basically, it was an art and craft project which was tricky too. As me and my team knew some ways of making it but to select which would suit the case in hand was difficult. We discussed it and got some clarity. We started working on the project.
We decided to use sticks made out of newspaper. We rolled newspaper to form sticks and for base we made two hexagons from ivory sheet. We adjusted sticks between hexagons and pasted them carefully. Then we started with weaving all sticks and it began stacking on each other.
Slowly it took its shape but to enhance its structure we kept a small cylindrical bottle in it. After rolling sticks and giving them proper shape, we locked the ends of sticks inside the uppermost stacked stick.
As student requested us to use her favourite colours, we painted the pen stand with blue and pink fabric paints. My team mate suggested that we should paint it twice to give the clean finishing effect. So, we gave it a double coat of paint to hide the text printed on the newspaper.
When the paint dried it looked glossy and elegant. Student found it interesting and she was happy as she submitted the project to her teacher in the given time limit. We (team) were happy to know from the student that her teacher gave her an ‘A’ grade and she kept the pen stand at the teacher’s desk.
